Edwin began in Japan in 1951 with a mission to allow the young men of Japanese society to replicate the rebellious and iconic American denim styles they were seeing throughout popular cinema at the time. The founder, Shuji Tsunemi, was a Japanese student who had studied abroad in America. He used the experience gained from his travels to begin producing stylish jeans for the Japanese masses, with a focus on hand distressed pieces with a relaxed, worn look. A forward thinking brand, Edwin has been credited as the first company to purposefully fade their clothing, with the introduction of stone washing in 1981 helping Edwin continue to expand it’s stylish horizons and become a go to brand for high quality denim pieces. Further ventures into casualwear mean the Edwin collection offered today at Psyche includes not only their world famous jeans, but also a selection of fashionable Edwin t-shirts, knitwear and Edwin shorts.
