This season at Psyche sees the arrival of a very important figure in the world of fashion. We have had our eyes on this peculiar Belgian's collections for a while now, and when the opportunity arose we decided to make our move.
Belgium is famous for a few things we can all relate to; waffles, chocolate, Jean Claude Van Damme, and one of our long-standing favorite designers: Dries Van Noten. A descendent of Antwerp's first bespoke tailor and renowned as one of the "antwerp six", Dries interest in fashion came about at a young age. Through working with his father Dries soon realised he was more interested in design than retail. After graduating a fashion design course in Antwerp, he went on to produce a tailored collection that proved a success with high fashion boutiques throughout the world.
The AW16 collection Fuses the pragmatic military garb of last century with references to '60s psychedelic subcultures. Rather than vaguely referencing the latter, Dries took the plunge and commissioned Wes Wilson, the pioneer of Psychedelic art, to design the embroideries. The result is a juxtaposition of conformist sensibilities and the colourful counterpart to psychedelic rock music, two polar opposites that the Belgian genius manages to bring together for the collection. At Psyche we’re delighted to offer a selection of Dries Van Noten clothing in store, including men’s button down shirts, jumpers and jackets. We’re constantly on the hunt for new designers and proud to stock a wide range of luxury menswear brands such as Armani Jeans, Pretty Green and Paul Smith available to buy online today.
